European Parliament: protection of Dalits is ‘grossly inadequate’

The European Parliament on 1st February adopted a resolution on the human rights situation of Dalits in India. The Parliament states that implementation of laws protecting Dalits is ‘grossly inadequate’. Atrocities, untouchability, bonded labour, child labour and manual scavenging, among other rights violations, continue to blight the lives of India’s Dalits. The Government of India strongly criticizes the resolution.
